Speak With Impeccability
This next article is part of an ongoing series here at TSB Magazine called The Success Principles. The series is based on the 64 principles laid out by Jack Canfield in his course of the same name. If you’re new, I always suggest starting any series from the beginning.
Principle 51: Speak With Impeccability
To understand the concept behind this next principle I suggest bringing to mind our current president Barrak Obama. Whether you agree or disagree with his political stances, you must acknowledge that the man is an impeccable speaker. It can even be argued that his gift of communication is the one of the main reasons he has achieved the level of political success that he has.
To speak with impeccability is to speak from your highest self. It means that you speak with intention and with integrity. It means that your words are in alignment with what you say you want to produce- your vision and your dreams. J.Canfield
Unfortunately most people don’t follow this consequence. Most people speak without consequence. They don’t think about what they’re saying, and rarely acknowledge the potential damage they can bring. They also miss out on the opportunity to use their words to take them to a higher level.
I use Barak Obama as an example because he is the perfect illustration of a man who used words to bring a nation together. He used is words to build hope. For the first time in years, he brought hope to the world that differences could be mended, obstacles overcome, and a world united.
The most successful people in this world know the power of words. They know that to be more successful, they need to speak with words that build self esteem and self confidence, build relationships, and build dreams- words of affirmation, encouragement, appreciation, love, acceptance, possibility, and vision.
Successful people focus the words they speak on positive, uplifting attributes, rather than the sleazy and slimy side of life. They the words they speak reflect on the person they are on the inside. And that everything they say produces an effect in this world. Everything you say to someone else produces an effect in that person. Your words are constantly either building or destroying.
Canfield gives us four points to remember:
1. Make a commitment to be impeccable in your speech when talking to others.
2. Make an effort to appreciate something about every person you interact with.
3. Make a commitment to tell the truth, as best you can, in all of your interactions and dealings with others. Make a commitment to do it for 1 day, then 2 days in a row, then a whole week.
4. Make it the intention of every interaction with others that you uplift them in some small way. Notice how you feel when you do that.
There is a book called How to Win Friends and Influence People. Every person who interacts with other people on a daily basis should make it a point to read this book several times. Or better yet, get the audio version and listen to it constantly in your car.
