Success Principle Review Exercises (Part 2)

As I stated in part one of the review exercises, we are a third way through the 64 Success Principles laid out in this series.? These exercises are a way to review what we’ve been learning over the past 22 principles.

While these principles are what creates and defines success, the only way they will help you personally achieve success is if you implement them in your daily life.? The exercises in part one, and the exercises I’m going to lay out below are designed to keep your mind focused on what you’ve learned, and to use some of the principles right now to create momentum going forward.

If you're new to the series, I suggest starting the series from the beginning and working your way to this review. But if you are impatient and just want to implement some good techniques and ideas that feel free to join in on the exercises.

Success Principle Review Exercises

All of these exercises should be implemented on trial basis. Try some of these out for a few days and see how it makes you feel. The idea of each of these is to create new more effective habits for success in all areas of your life.

Exercise 6: The 30 Affirmation Challenge

Lets all make a pack that we will try out affirmations for 30 days consistently. Everyone and their grandmother preaches the benefits of affirmations, but it is my assumption that most of us have never used them consistently for more than one week or so.

Affirmations are probably the easiest, least time consuming, least physically or mentally exhausting way to seek out change, yet most us stop using them after all a few days of practice.? Why?

Lets all challenge ourselves to use them daily, with enthusiasm for no less than 30 days.? If after 30 days we see no difference in how we feel or the results we are getting, then we are free to dump the use of affirmations from our arsenal of success.

Use the guidelines for creating affirmations laid out in Principle 10, and then follow the steps below:

1.? Review your affirmations one to three times a day. The best times are first thing in the morning, in the middle of the day, and then around bed time.
2.? If appropriate read each affirmation out loud.
3.? Close your eyes and visualize yourself as the affirmation describes.
4.? Hear any sounds you might hear when you successfully achieve the described affirmation.
5.  Feel the feelings that you will feel when you achieve that success.
6.  Say your affirmation again, and then repeat this process with the next affirmation.

Exercise 7:? Host an “Act as if” night with your friends

This exercise is powerful but requires you to have friends that are aligned with your goals and as eager to reach success as you are. If you have friends (a mastermind group) willing I highly suggest doing this next exercise in the next week or so.

Basically the exercise is to either have a party at your house, or go out for a night on the town, completely acting as if you’ve already achieved your goals. This requires a huge leap in imagination and a congruency in personality to pull it off.? What you are essentially doing is “faking it till you make” in extreme force for one night.? This means that you will tell stories to your friends about your first book deal, the model you are dating, your graduation from Harvard Law… or whatever your goals happen to be.You will go through the entire night like you’ve already achieved them.? Look, talk, act, and think the way you would if your specific most important goals were achieved.

If you have friends willing do this more often, it is a great tool for training your mind to accept the new reality you are striving for…. which will make it much easier to ease into.

Exercise 8:? Take 2 comfort challenges

Tim Ferriss taught me about giving yourself consistent “comfort challenges” in his book “The Four Hour Work Week.”? A comfort challenge is basically challenges you give yourself on a semi consistent basis to continually force yourself to confront your fears, and break through your comfort zones.

To begin try these 2 comfort challenges Tim suggests in his book:

1.? Being sure to maintain eye contact, ask for the phone numbers of at least two (the more you attempt the less stressful it will be) attractive members of the opposite sex on each day for two days.? Remember the real goal is not to get the phone numbers, but to get over the fear of asking, so the outcome is unimportant.? If you're in a relationship, just toss the numbers if you get them.

Go to a mall if you want to get some rapid-fire practice- my preference for getting over the discomfort quickly- and aim to ask three people in a row within five minutes.

If you want to start your comfort challenge from the comfort of your own home, do this one right now:

2.? Call at least one potential superstar mentor per day for three days.? E-mail only after attempting a phone call.? I recommend calling before 8:30 AM or after 6:00 PM to reduce run-ins with secretaries and other gate keepers.? Have a single question in mind, one that you have researched yourself but have been unable to answer yourself.? Shoot for for “A” players- CEOs, ultrasuccessful entrepreneurs, famous authors, etc. _and don’t aim low to make it less frightening.? Use www.contactanycelebrity.com if need be.

Exercise 9:Create a Success Journal

In Principle 21 I vaguely recommended keeping a success journal.? After attending the Super Conference in Los Angeles last week and talking with some of the most successful pickup artist in the world, I am even more convinced that creating a success journal will keep you focused on your goals and successes, and eliminate your failures from your mind.

You can use this journal any way you please, so long as you are only writing the successful points of your journey in it.? For instance, if you out on a date, and the date goes horribly wrong, find the one or two good points of your performance and only write those items down.? Same thing for job interviews, business meetings, exercise programs… anything you’re doing toward a goal… write down every success you have.

Pretty soon you will have a book filled small successes and will begin to see that you are not infact standing still… you are just making progress at a slower speed.? This will not only keep you motivated, but by continually reviewing what is working for you, you can concentrate on implementing those items more, while discarding what isn’t working.

These 4 exercises should be implemented immediately. I will be back in a couple days with some more exercises that you should implement immediately if you have not already.

These principles are powerful stuff but only if you apply them.
