The newest trend in politics and dating apps
Dating apps have, surprisingly, played a role in the 2016 presidential election, from profile picture graphics to people promoting their favorite candidates.
The latest trend has been dating sites tailored to conservative, or right-leaning, users. Here are a few things to know:
Donald Trump supporters have a certain stigma attached to them, so one site helps
According to this article in New York Magazine:
California resident David Goss, 35, was inspired to start the site when he heard of Republican friends of his getting rejected by their dates once their political affiliations became known.
“I think there’s a special stigma when people say they’re supporting Trump, because of some of the brash things that he’s said. That immediately gets [projected] on his supporters, and it makes it hard for them when trying to date,” Goff told the New York Post.
If you’re a person planning to vote for the candidate who says “brash things,” such as proposing “a complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States,” and you’re looking for the man or woman who shares your beliefs, TrumpSingles.com may be your key to love. The service’s free version limits you to one message per month, and unlimited service costs $4.95.
This other one is for Republican supporters in general. According to this article in Yahoo!:
To use the app, simply create an up-to-date and detailed profile, which will be password protected (ostensibly to prevent “all sorts of dating cyber hassles”). You can set your dating preferences and specify qualities you find most appealing (other than voting red, of course), and once you’re ready to go, you’ll become discoverable to other users.
From there, Rep works like any other dating app — you can chat with prospects, go on dates, and see if that virtual chemistry exists in real life too. And at the very least, you’ll know that you have something in common — being a conservative single.
