Style tips for muscly guys

What’s the point of working hard at the gym if you don’t know how to dress for your body?

The fit man?s guide to dressing well

Mass produced clothing often does not do justice to men who work on their physiques. These tips for muscular guys will help you make the right style choices to flatter your body.

Plain tops

You have put the hours into developing your upper body muscles, so reap the rewards by showing them off. You do not need patterns to distract from your upper body, rather, you want to emphasise the area. Plain and well fitted tops are best for this purpose. A block colored Henley shirt will show off your upper body and looks stylish. Your tops should be relatively tight, hugging your arm muscles and chest, and tapering in at the waist. This does not mean you need to find tops with a bizarre cut made for muscle men. Usually, going down a size (from what you think you are) will do the trick.

Straight cut jeans

You never skip a leg day, but now you find it hard to get jeans that fit. Most styles of jeans do not suit the guy with well-developed quads. Baggy jeans do you no favours, as people will not be able to tell if you are muscly or just fat. Skinny jeans struggle to accommodate your thighs, and will wear out quickly in the crotch and thigh area due to your legs rubbing together. Straight leg or slightly tapered jeans are the best choice to fashionably house your muscly legs.

Custom jeans for muscular legs

Depending on just how much you work your legs, you may find that it is impossible to buy jeans off-the-rack which are not too tight around the thighs while still fitting around the hips. Do try a number of styles from different brands; specialist jeans shops will usually have something with roughly the correct proportions. There are particular brands, such as Barbell Apparel, that are made with muscular men in mind. However, if you still cannot find something that looks good on you, you will have to get a large pair of jeans altered by a tailor.

Get trendy through accessories

Fast fashion is not made for your body type. Walk into any fast fashion retailer, and you will find that most of their clothing is best suited to slim guys, or those with a pot belly rather than pecs. As a result of not being able to buy cheap but trendy pieces, following the fashions would be an expensive venture for you. There is nothing wrong with going for a classic look and shunning seasonal trends, but if you would like to keep your look up-to-date, your best bet will be using accessories to create a fashionable look. If polka dots are in fashion in a season, don?t buy a polka dot shirt- go for a polka dot scarf or socks.
