7 Tips to Avoid Over-Eating through the Holidays
I’d like to say it’s inevitable, I’d like to say it happens to everyone–we gorge down on sweets and desserts and drinks like it’s the end of time, only to start the new year with an extra roll and a sad “here we go again” expression. The reason I’d like to say these things is so I don’t feel so bad when it’s over, if it happens to everyone then I can’t be expected to do otherwise, I’ve got to go along with it, to indulge, to expand.
But I can’t say that, because it doesn’t happen to everyone, some people are impervious to the holiday stuffing, either that or they’re incredibly motivated. If you’re like me, and want to remain semi-consistent these holidays, we need some help. Enter Huffington Post, with 7 tips?to stop us from over-indulging, including drinking liquids before a meal:
3. Drink liquid before a meal.
Have a glass of water or seltzer about a half hour before your meal. In a study by?Health.com it is reported that drinking water before a meal helps fill your stomach, making you less hungry and less likely to overeat.
I have more good news for you, you don’t need to give up all the good stuff:
Periodic indulgences should be encouraged. Patterns of deprivation always backfire; this is why most diets fail. What we deny ourselves builds up a lot of energy in the subconscious mind. And if something happens to tip the scale — a high-pressure day at work, a family crisis, etc. — this can lead to a complete collapse of one’s determination.
I heard a sigh of relief…It was me. The article mentions that we should have some items that we know we’re going to eat, but to also have a “non-negotiable” list of things that we must not touch. Go check out the rest of the post for the other tips, and keep your body in tact these holidays.
