Must-Read: Saving Money with YouTube
Time is money and money is time. Which is why that when it comes to fixing a few things around the house or your car, we tend to pay money to experts who can fix it for us rather than, you know, heading out to the library and getting a book about how to fix this thing and then fixing it. BUT, here’s the thing. You don’t need to do that anymore. Now, everything you need to know about fixing virtually anything it online, waiting for you.
Which is why today we’re heading on over to Bargaineering where they have a piece about how you can save a whole bunch of money simply by heading over to YouTube and learning to do something yourself. For instance:
After figuring out that the problem was likely a failing igniter, I searched YouTube and found a 9-minute video on how to fix an oven.
I was slightly intimidated, since I?ve never repaired an appliance or done any electrical work before.
But then I watched Gas Oven Won?t Heat ? How to Repair by Tomahawk DIY, which helps people make simple ?do-it-yourself? home repairs like unclogging a drain or fixing a leaky pipe.
I figured that if this guy in the video could do the job, complete with diagnosis and explanation, in a mere 9 minutes, surely I could do it in a reasonable amount of time.
It took a few minutes to unscrew the bottom of my oven, flip the circuit breaker to shut off power to my oven, unscrew the igniter and unplug it.
The part number was still clearly visible on the igniter?s plug, so I looked it up on Amazon and found a replacement.
The cost? $34.11, including tax and shipping.
