Matthew Broderick Back as Ferris Bueller in Super Bowl Commercial

If Madonna playing the halftime show isn?t enough 80s nostalgia for you, don?t fret. Matthew Broderick has reprised his role as America?s favorite truant Ferris Bueller for a Super Bowl XLVI commercial. And no, Mr. Rooney does not make an appearance.

Save Ferris

According to a recent article for New York Magazine?s Vulture column, Broderick needed some time to consider shooting the commercial ? a sendup of ?Ferris Bueller?s Day Off? for the 2012 Honda CR-V — but ended up doing it because he ?thought it would be fun to send up Ferris Bueller a little bit.?

While the commercial was shot in Los Angeles as opposed to the film?s Chicago setting, it does make several references to the movie, namely a leaping car scene and a license plate bearing the words ?SO CHOICE.?

It?s the perfect meeting-up of 80s culture and modern YouTube culture. In a quote showing the actor?s age, Broderick had to say ?I guess I’m part of a virus,”

Check out the on video on YouTube and see how many references you can catch. Some people are complaining, saying that it?s a cash-in(what commercial isn?t?) and should have included other actors from the film. Beggars can?t be choosers, however, and this is as close to a sequel as you?ll get. Who knows? Perhaps they?ll be a Doritos commercial featuring the cast of ?The Breakfast Club? next year.
