Buscemi Wasted on Lackluster “SNL”
Too bad Steve Buscemi didn?t appear on a late 70s or early 90s episode of ?Saturday Night Live,? because his unique talents would have actually been put to use. Unfortunately, one of Hollywood?s most distinctive actors sat on the sidelines during this weekend?s episode.
Buscemi, riding high on ?Boardwalk Empire? buzz, was live from New York this Saturday. (Barely.) Star of such movies as ?Con Air,? and ?The Big Lebowski,? the inimitable Buscemi tried his best to put on a solid show with very little to contribute. In an episode that touched on Batman, Miley Cyrus, and *shudder* recent college pedophilia scandals, Buscemi did his best with some pretty uneven material (Miley Cyrus jokes, really? Is this 2005?) His performance as a Taco Bell/Pizza Hut employee burnout, however, was pretty decent. He sure knows how to play a weirdo.
Check out footage of this weekend?s ?Saturday Night Live.” While you?re there, you can read up on more critical response to the episode.
Hopefully, Buscemi?s next ?SNL? appearance finds him with better material (and a better cast.) Just imagine if he?d hosted upon release of ?Reservoir Dogs.? I?m sure he would have fit in perfectly in a Chris Farley/Matt Foley skit. I can so see him living in a van down by the river.
