Oh, the glorious past. Back when people didn’t know any better about anything, and just kind of did whatever it was their tiny brains told them to do, no matter how seemingly dangerous or outright insane that activity might be. Take for example, this video [via Boing Boing] of a guy shooting at the face of his wife, who is holding up a pane of his homemade bulletproof glass.

Now something like this, obviously, wouldn’t work today, what with your dozens and dozens of protest groups (many of them, no doubt, anti-shooting-your-wife-in-the-face) getting all up in arms about this little test performance? I mean, what’s the worst that can happen, you hippies? Sure, since the glass wasn’t approved by any government inspection agency, it might not hold and the bullet could go through, instantly killing the wife. Or the man might accidentally aim a little low, missing the glass entirely and hitting her in an unprotected area. Or the woman could drop the glass at just the wrong moment. Or any other number of other easily possible incidents could happen.

But besides those, what else could go wrong? Folks back then had it right. Shoot first, hope the homemade bulletproof glass you made on your off-hours in your home laboratory/garage holds later.
