Must-Read: What to Eat Before Workouts
For us personally, we hate working out on a full stomach. After eating a nice meal, the last thing we want to do is stretch ourselves and lift and do whatever it takes in order to have a good workout. But you need fuel in order to fuel that workout! Oh, what a conundrum. Luckily, there are plenty of foods out there that you can eat before workouts that will actually help move along your workout by getting your body ready for what’s about to happen without dragging it down like a Thanksgiving dinner.
And so today we’re heading on over to Men’s Fitness in order to check out what they have to say about what foods to eat before working out. They recommend five of them to eat before working out, and here’s one of them:
Bananas
?They?re nature?s PowerBar,? boasts Dr. Louise Burke, head of Sports Nutrition at the Australian Institute of Sport and coauthor of The Complete Guide to Food for Sports Performance: Peak Nutrition for Your Sport. Bananas are loaded with digestible carbohydrates (read: fuel) and are packed with potassium, which aids in maintaining nerve and muscle function. The body doesn?t store potassium for very long, so a medium banana before a workout will help keep nutrient levels high. Villacorta especially recommends bananas for morning exercisers: ?Get up and eat a medium banana with 1/2 cup of Greek yogurt. Wait about 30 minutes and then hit the gym. Your body will need the carbohydrates and protein.?
Head on over to check out the other four foods that they recommend in order to get your workout plan perfect. And they get to heading to the grocery store and buying those exact foods.
