Top Five Movies of Amber Heard

After looking through Amber Heard?s filmography for a bit, I saw the movie, ?Drop Dead Sexy.? I thought, no, that can?t be it. But it was. It was one of the movies I saw on my first trip to South by Southwest for their film festival. How was it? Let?s just say it didn?t make Amber?s top five below.

But, it?s not the movie that struck me, but the feeling of the film festival. The showing for ?Drop Dead Sexy? took place in the Paramount Theater that I believe was the largest venue of the festival. There were lines around the block. My friend and I barely got inside and got seats in the balcony. The film starred Crispin Glover and Jason Lee, and as I write that, I can?t believe I?m going to try to justify its ?star power.? (I mean, look at this press release.) Still, in comparison to most everything else I saw in Austin that week, those are big stars and have been in other movies. As far as I can tell, the movie went straight to DVD.

That?s the thing about film festivals (I?m about to sound like Forrest Gump): you never know what you?re going to get. The best things I?ve seen tend to not be the polished star pictures, but the smaller films, especially documentaries, that have such a personal point of view. For example, that year, I really liked ?Troop 1500.? When I look for ?Troop 1500? on IMDB, there are 30 users that have rated it. ?Drop Dead Sexy? has 1,649 users that have rated it. That?s why I stopped going to see the bigger movies (and avoided lines) and started going to the smaller ones. It made it much more interesting and I saw things I might not see again.

On the other hand, Amber Heard is starring in ?Paranoia? with Harrison Ford, Liam Hemsworth and Gary Oldman that opens on August 16th. I know we?ll be seeing her again. It?s easy to do with these five movies.

5. The River Why

I enjoy the Oregon wilderness and I enjoy fly-fishing, so it is no surprise I enjoyed the book ?The River Why? by David James Duncan. Even though I?m not sure about a movie based on any book that I liked, because of Amber and because of being filmed around Portland, I can at least enjoy the scenery in the movie.

4. Drive Angry

There is one reason this movie is on the list ? well, besides wanting to see another bat-shit crazy performance by Nicholas Cage ? that?s the sex scene that I?ve heard described by friends as hilarious and insane. Combine sex with a gunfight and I think that?s the wet dream of every 15-year-old boy.

3. The Rum Diary

It?s a movie based on a novel by Hunter S. Thompson. That?s one point. It has Amber. That?s two points. It also has Johnny Depp, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Rispoli and Richard Jenkins. Points three, four, five and six and that is the set.

2. Pineapple Express

Have you seen ?This Is The End?? Let me be the fortieth person to tell you that it is awesome. It?s a great apocalypse movie. However, if you haven?t seen ?Pineapple Express,? how are you supposed to understand the movie within the movie of ?Pineapple Express 2?? Well, it?s pretty easy to understand really, but still, have some respect for yourself.

1. Zombieland

Like I said in my look at the movies of the lovely Emma Stone, Zombieland is awesome. Amber?s role as 406 may be small, but it?s a darn good way to introduce the movie.
