“Sharkzilla” and More Make Discovery Channel’s Shark Week Worth Watching
It?s a fact: Dudes love sharks. The bassist in my old band had a Jaws tattoo on his left shoulder. My best friend is obsessed with sharks and buys every last piece of shark merchandise he can get his hands on. Me? Well, I used to play with rubber sharks in the bathtub as a kid. Suck it, rubber duckies.
If you?re like one of the aforementioned dudes, you?ll probably be excited to know that Discovery Channel kicked off its annual Shark WeekSunday night. Shark Week is a week of programming highlighting the most epically awesome fish in the ocean.
2012 marks Shark Week?s 25th year anniversary, and the Discovery Channel isn?t taking it lightly. Hosted by YouTube celebrity Philip DeFranco (you might know him better as “sxephil?), this week offers up a plethora of awesome shows. ?Adrift: 47 Days With Sharks? tells the story of two men who survived for 47 days surrounded by a gang of sharks. ?Sharkzilla? celebrates the most legendary of sharks, the 60 feet long, 100,000 pound Megalodon that ruled the ocean millions of years ago.
The purpose of Shark Week is not to scare millions of TV viewers, but to raise awareness of a pretty awe-inspiring group of fish. Needless to say, ?Jaws? is fiction, and sharks are something to be respected.
Whether you?re rocking a great white tattoo or just need a break from Adult Swim, hit up Discovery this week.
