Picking-Up Chicks at Anime Boston
If you read the title of this article and thought to yourself, ?this guy has got to be joking?, I honestly have to say that I was thinking the exact same thing when my fellow pick-up minded buddy posed the idea to me.
Having attended last year?s Anime Boston, he spun tales of insane hotel parties, packed late-night ragers and a plethora of scantily clad females whose only possible faults might be an odd, sexual obsession with furry cartoon characters (unless your into that).
Proclaiming a grand plan to approach as many women as possible, my initial hesitation was quickly assuaged as we proceeded to spend the entire weekend partying harder than I – and most likely the city of Boston – could have ever anticipated.
The funny thing I learned about conventions like this is that it?s virtually impossible not to meet new people over the course of the event.? With literally thousands of like-minded, anime enthusiasts overrunning the venue, I, however, found it difficult at first to open up sets due to my limited knowledge of the genre (unless of course we?re talking DBZ or any of the shows that the 12 year-old version of me watched on Toonami).
Waking up way too early for a Friday morning, I admittedly waded through the first few hours with an air of condescension and skepticism.? Was this master plan of hitting on girls for three days really going to be fun?
But after getting the feel for the event and downing a nice, tall cup of coffee, I realized that it wasn?t the atmosphere that was hindering my enjoyment: it was my own, negative attitude.? Quickly I switched gears and decided to just go with the flow, a simple change that made gaming as easy as shooting fish in a barrel.
Left and right, we were flirting with new sets, taking numbers and meeting some surprisingly cute females.? Eventually, we made our way to the rave held in the hotel?s ballroom.
Yes, a rave.
While not the typical partying crowd, I saw a side of this culture that completely flipped my views.? The party got so insane that officials actually shut it down early on the second night because of a myriad of fights and passed out party goers lining the ballroom floor.
And I thought I went hard.
Eventually, we made our way to a friend?s hotel room for a mini-rager of our own, culminating in a nice little rendezvous with a delightful brunette for yours truly. 😉
Throughout the event I learned that game isn?t dependent on where you are or even the people around you.? When I finally checked my preconceived notions at the door, I was opened to a whole new side of a group of people I would have never imagined myself partying with.
True, I probably won?t revisit this scene too often, but I learned that I can and should find enjoyment out of the situation.
In all honesty, when going out, the focus shouldn?t even be about getting laid.? Whether it?s going to a convention, going to a club or even taking a nice stroll around town, gaming girls is the same no matter what. ? The important thing is to just have fun and enjoy life, not letting expectations ruin a good time.
Once you take away that unnecessary pressure and negative energy, the rest will fall into place.
