‘Total Recall’ Trailer Debuts
If memory serves me, I’ve seen this movie before. Sony Pictures has released the full-length official trailer for the upcoming sci-fi action flick “Total Recall”:
For the young and/or pop culture-oblivious, “Total Recall” is actually a remake of a 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger movie of the same name. Ah-nuld’s movie was itself based on a 1996 novelette by Philip K. Dick titled “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale.” First announced in 2009, “Total Recall” is scheduled for a US release date of August 3.
The upcoming “Total Recall” promises to stay truer to Dick’s more politically-driven novelette, but will still follow the general premise of the original. Doug Quad (played by Colin Farrell) is a factory worker living in the dystopian future of 2084. Tired of his ordinary life, he visits Rekall, a company that turns fantasies into actual memories. When all hell breaks loose after hooking up to Rekall’s system, Quaid discovers that he may not be more than just an ordinary man.
“Total Recall,” which also stars Kate Beckinsale and Jennifer Biel, looks like a standard-fare action flick. Like the 1990 original, the film looks like it will deliver on the visual end. Whether or not Farrell can stack up to Schwarzenegger, however, remains to be seen. I, for one, just can’t believe they’re already remaking movies that came out when I was a kid. I think I need to hook up to a Rekall machine and relive my SNES-playing, M.C. Hammer-listening days.
