Help Your Immune System
For the most part, your immune system does a spectacular job of protecting you from microorganisms that could make you sick. But sometimes it fails and germs invade our bodies, causing sore throats, runny noses and itchy eyes. Winter is the time of year when most people get sick, so you need to help your immune system work to the best of its ability so you can stay healthy all season long.
Have you ever heard the phrase ?boost your immune system?? While it seems like an effective way to stay healthy, there is no single way to precisely improve your immune system. It?s not a single entity that one magic pill can make better. Your immune system requires healthy balance and harmony to keep it functioning at its best. Although taking vitamin supplements can help, there?s no quick fix when it comes to making your immune system stronger.
The first line of defense for a healthy immune system is simple: live a healthy lifestyle. Following typical health guidelines can do wonders for both your body and your immune system. Every part of your being, including your immune system, will benefit from a healthy and active lifestyle. Some simple things that you can do include eating a diet high in fruits, veggies, whole grains and low in saturated fats, exercise regularly, avoid smoking, get lots of sleep, drink in moderation, and take steps to avoid infection, such as washing your hands frequently.
If you?re doing all of the above but want some extra help for your immune system, then taking some vitamins or supplements might be a good idea. There are plenty of different supplements that you can take to improve your system. Some of these include aloe vera, astragalus membranes, garlic and ginseng.
Stress can also play a huge role when it comes to your immune system. Prolonged stress can affect our bodies in bizarre ways and can even take a physical toll on our immune systems. It can dramatically weaken our defenses against diseases and make us sick. So, if you?ve been working overtime in the office or have any other factors in your life that are causing unneeded stress, let them go or take a break from them.
Surprisingly, though, being cold doesn?t necessarily make you sick. Almost every mother has always said to her child, ?Wear your coat or you?ll catch a cold!? But scientific research suggests otherwise. The reason for winter being the ?cold and flu season? isn?t because people are cold, but that they spend more time indoors and are in closer contact with people who can pass on their germs. One way to avoid getting sick in the winter is to wash your hands before every meal and avoid physical contact with people who have colds.
It is possible to stay healthy in the wintertime. Be sure to eat right, exercise, wash your hands, sleep and take vitamins or supplements if needed.
