Must-Read: Tough Enough for These Insane Sports?
Maybe you’ve heard of the Tough Mudder, the insane annual race that places its contestants through 24 hours of insane military-like challenges like being thrown through freezing water and disgusting mud. It’s been getting more and more press over the past few years as journalists are finally hearing about this test of willpower populated by lunatics. (In other words, the story done writes itself.) For the longest time, the Tough Mudder has been characterized as the more grueling and excruciating endurance challenge around. But, that case is no longer.
As Men’s Fitness points out in their new post, the Tough Mudder is put a hair on the giant scrotum sack of increasingly-wacky and tough-to-even-consider-starting-let-alone-finishing races. For instance, here’s the :
A 100K run is taxing on any body, but if that’s not enough of a challenge, you can always do it in Antarctica. The race takes place near the Ellsworth Mountains, which is closer to the South Pole than most people will ever get. Temperatures get to roughly -20 C and there’s a constant wind that fluctuates between 10 to 25 knots. The terrain is quite literally a glacier, so it makes the pot holes in your local road running route seem tame. Plus, the whole thing takes place at an altitude of about 2,300 feet. If you don’t feel like you can make the 100K, there’s a traditional 26.2-mile marathon as well as the Antarctic Mile, which is new for this year’s event.
So, yeah. If you think you’re actually tough enough to do the Tough Mudder, head over to the above link and check out a whole bunch more races that will put hair on your various body parts just by reading about them!
